Hello to all fellow Shoeboxers that live in the Midwestern-ish area!

I know that the summer is still very far away (especially considering the weather we’re experiencing at the moment… brrrr.), but I like to get a head start on things, so ... I've decided to start this community up.  This is a community for the planning of a meet-up sometime either in late spring (?) or during the summer, and somewhere in the Midwest.  I don’t think the actual detailed planning will start until … the snow melts, at least.

Anyways, I know that some of us were discussing either meeting in Chicago or in Minneapolis.  Any other place suggestions?  Or comments on how easy it is for people to get to certain places?  (I live in Wisconsin, but I'm sure that I could make it to anywhere within a reasonable distance.  Carpooling wouldn't be a bad idea, either.)  We could at least get the place set now, and then bother about the logistics later.  (Like … the exact number of people that are coming, what day we're meeting, which building we’re going to overrun, if we’re staying in hotels or not...)  I'd also like to get an approximate time frame set.  School ends in late May for me, and I'll be working afterwards, but I think I can easily make it to a weekend meet-up in the summer.

So, comments are appreciated!

Be sure to keep watch on this community.  I'll post sporadically to remind people that it still exists, and I'll post the link to the cult once in awhile as well, so that we can gather as many people as possible!

I'm so excited about this.  :D

28th-Jan-2005 04:55 pm (UTC) - YOU JUST SAID LOGISTICS!!!!!
I'm so excited about this that I threw up a little in my mouth.

As long as you can still get there, Minneapolis would be a LOT easier for me to get to.

You are so orginized ... *marvels*

As far as a date goes ... What about around ... Ohhhhh sayyyyy June 22nd?

July 16th, also not a bad idea at all.

Can we change the name of this to Sbp_Midwest_ANDJEN?

Just an idea. *smirk* *hug*

There! It's fixed now. That happens quite a bit to me, actually. I blame ... Draco.

Hee, maybe we could go stake out the Barnes and Nobles in Mall of America on July 16th? I wonder if they're actually going to do the whole midnight thing, though. Hmm.

What fun! Minneapolis is definitely best for me...Chicago might be a little too far, but it'd depend on when and all that.

Yeee! I'm excited! I will spread the word to my shoebox-loving friends from around here :D

I'm in Chicago, and as I don't have a car that would be easiest for me. However, I know that the train runs to Madison, so that would also be maybe-a-bit possible. I think that's a destination that's fairly in the middle, yes?

Where are all the Kansas shoeboxers? :(
This is really just a spam post, as I'm unable to travel...{waves} Kansas? Anyone?

You live in Wheaton?

Do you pronounce the T? I've found that people from the town say the T. It amuses me. (My friends and I all say Whee-in. Tehehe.)

*reads you bio because she's bored at work* DUDE. OMFG. YOU... OMG. I WORK AT A CATHOLIC CHURCH AND MAKE 6.50 AN HOUR. THAT IS WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW. !!!!!*spaz*!!!!

You're too cool for Wheaton. What the hell are you doing there?
30th-Jan-2005 08:11 pm (UTC)
Haha, we do say the T. Kind of. Sort of soft like.

Dude, you work at a chuch?! Haha. I work at a religious book/gift/supply whatsit store. What church do you work for? We probably supply your candles/hosts/priest clothing/ etc.

And yes, yes. I am rather too cool for Wheaton. Thank goodness I shall only be stuck here for a few more months!

Very crazy. *smooch*

I work for St. Vincent Ferrer in River Forest. Popular church for weddings.

Yay for getting out of suburbia. I'm trapped there too, but I'm only 10 short blocks (you know, the short part of the rectangle that is a block) away from Chicago, so only a little bit.

I live in Wisconsin during the summer and the drive is about the same either way, though i'd prefer Minneapolis. :)
4th-Feb-2005 10:09 pm (UTC)
My vote goes to Minneapolis. :) Also, I have a question...

I love dinking around with communities. Would you wanna let me be a moderator too *if you remember me I posed the suggestion of making the community in a previous post*, i'd just make it all purdy, maybe buy a 2 month subscription so we could put this question in actuall poll form instead of counting the tallies. :)
13th-Feb-2005 06:43 pm (UTC) - squee!!! sbp meetup!!!
I'd prefer Chicago, because I live in Brookfield, just a few miles from downtown. I probably couldn't make it to anywhere else. My vote is for July 16th, so we could go to get our books as a group, in costume or SBP t-shirts. If ther is another Diagon Alley thing like last time in Oak Park, that would be really cool. I had a great time there last year, and my friend and I got interviewed for FOX news because we were in costume. It was great, so yeah, I'm really excited!!!
